How classes work here at DMBC:

*Please contact your instructor before attending class.*

All of our practitioners are completely independent businesses who rent space here at DMBC, and they handle their own scheduling, pricing and payment. We keep our calendar page as updated as we can, but individual instructors are the best source of information about registration and any last minute cancellations or schedule changes.

Therapeutic Yoga

with Simone Palmieri

Mondays: 4:15-5:30 pm Pre-registration required. $65 per month

This therapeutic yoga class was initially designed for people with fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS/ME), but long ago was broadened by the instructor to be appropriate for anyone with pain or lower than average stamina. Led by certified yoga therapist Simone Palmieri, this class is appropriate for students with a multitude of ailments, for instance a fused spine, a hip or knee replacement, or limited mobility due to injury or illness. If you cannot get up and down from the floor, a chair and modifications will be provided. It includes a blend of Iyengar-inspired postures along with yoga in the Krishnamacharya tradition, favorite physical therapy/yoga therapy "exercises," and Judith Lasater's restorative postures. If these terms are foreign to you, just know that you will experience a combination of repetitive movements to build fluidity of muscles and joints, as well as holding still in postures to build strength and focus. You will also learn how breathing in specific ways can either calm or stimulate the nervous system, depending on what is needed for your body at that time. The age of students in this class ranges from early 20‘s to late 80‘s. At times this class has a different focus each week, such as improving sleep, learning breathing techniques that help with anxiety, or training your brain to bring its focus away from pain. No yoga experience is necessary, and the first class is always complimentary.

Please contact Simone Palmieri at 916-715-3225 to register. No drop- ins please.

Thursday 4:30-5:40pm - mixed level (SOLD OUT - email to be placed on waitlist)

Thursday 6-7:10pm - gentle flow

Saturday 9-10:30am - mixed level plus (extended session)

Simple postures, co-ordination of breath and movement, and techniques of deep relaxation and meditation for stress relief and centering. When you enter this class, you are welcomed and respected exactly as you are. Our practice together will be continuously and kindly adapted to meet your needs as an individual, considering where you're at physically and mentally, and what your priorities and goals are.

All the classes are offered as monthly series that start fresh at the beginning of the month. Class size is intentionally kept very small, to allow for the kind of time and communication that this individually tailored kind of practice requires. The "Gentle" class emphasizes movements and breath that heal the nervous system. The "Intermediate" class focuses more on developing strength in the body. The mixed level classes offer a bit of both, with an extended practice on Saturday morning for a little more time to explore philosophy and subtle energetics.

You're welcome to come and try out a class, without charge or commitment, to see if this is the right fit for you.

With Ann Sibbet

Wednesdays, 10-11:15

Last class of 2019 is November 20th.

Class returns of January 8th - January 22, 2020.

Moves to Mondays, 11:15 to 12:30pm Starting January 27, 2020

This system, developed by Julio Horvath, works the entire body through seven natural elements of spinal movement: forward, backward, right side, left side, left twist, right twist and circular, as well as all other joint articulation.

This methodology systematically and gently works the joints and muscles through rhythmic and undulating exercises. Movement which stimulates the body’s internal organs and different corresponding breathing patterns are integrated.

Fluidity is the key. Postures are not held for long periods of time. Instead, postures are smoothly and harmoniously connected through the use of breath.

The beginner classes start with self-massage and simple breathing patterns to awaken the body. The next focus is on the spine and pelvis. Seated on low stools, the class mobilizes the spine through a series of arching, curling, bending, twisting and spiraling movements. These same movement patterns are expanded to release the hip, knee, hamstring, quadriceps and so on, in all possible directions: front, back, twisting, turning. The corresponding breathing patterns in every movement stimulate the nervous system, open up the energy pathways and oxygenate the blood.

Community Cupping Clinic

with Anne-Christin Trost, PhD, CMT

Thursdays Noon-1pm

Have you been curious about cupping, but had no time to try it out? Join me on Thursdays Noon-1pm, for community cupping clinic. Come on by and experience the time-efficient tension-relief modality of cupping. Originating in Egypt and China, cupping has been practiced for thousands of years. It works by placing suction cups in affected areas. Excellent for relaxation and tension relief. Got a knot in your neck? Tight IT bands? Plantar Fasciitis? Cupping might be for you.

While the cupping session may only take 10-15 minutes, feel free to spend the whole hour relaxing in the yoga studio and recharging for the rest of your day.

Since this is a community cupping clinic, be sure to bring clothing that will allow me to access the area you want treated (i.e. shorts or swimsuit if you want IT band work). If you take blood thinning medication or are pregnant, cupping is not for you.
